Gadgets of the future from Gadget Guy Greg Harper
For content providers:
The iPhone as a production tool. You can now turn your iPhone into true video camera, complete with light, shotgun mic, and digital audio recording.
Live reporting/broadcasting … from anywhere. Rescue GPS service Spot now allows you to send SMS messages from anywhere in the world ($169 for device, plus $100+ annual usage fees). For those with an Internet connection, Livestream Broadcaster allows to upload live HD video directly to the web ($495).
Harper also demonstrated how he could fit four high definition cameras, tripods, mixing and editing boxes, lights — everything you need for a four-camera live broadcast — in one carry-on bag that fits in an airline overhead compartment.
For content consumers:
Aereo TV. For $12 per month, and only for those who live in New York City, Aereo TV will allow you access to over the air (OTA) station transmissions online and on mobile devices — and has a DVR function. The system simply captures and re-purposes the OTA feeds in New York City. This type of service is expected to become available in other major U.S. cities.
Microsoft’s new suite. With a new OS and new mobile platform, Microsoft simplifies its experience as it provides cloud-like access to all your data and information across PCs, tablets, and mobile phones.
